Chasing the ChE Dream – Donations Support Future Innovators

Earlier this year, current and former AIChE Foundation Trustees, Shailendra Bordawekar, Bruce ChinnPaul Mensah, and Otis Shelton, developed a plan to strengthen the future of the Henry T. & Melinda C. Brown Endowment.

Their ultimate goal is to double the endowment by raising $100,000 each year for the next three years.

Growing the endowment will help to achieve our aspiration that all future MAC Scholars will have a secure and stable source of funding. — Otis Shelton, AIChE Past President and AIChE Foundation Former Trustee

“Growing the endowment will help to achieve our aspiration that all future MAC Scholars will have a secure and stable source of funding,” said Otis Shelton, AIChE Past President and AIChE Foundation Former Trustee.

They are well on their way in 2023, securing more than 40% of their fundraising goal, thanks to personal investments by a concentrated group of donors.

Henry’s devotion to equity for minority engineers made an indelible impression on the Institute. Today it remains imperative that we lead by example to advance AIChE’s commitment to equitable, diverse, and inclusive chemical engineering talent. Not only must we open the doors, we must work to remove barriers to pursuing career dreams.

Texas A&M rising senior and 2020 MAC Scholar, Elizabeth Ajose shared, “Receiving the award gave me an opportunity to pursue a career I love and was a life-saver in helping me pay for tuition.”

A contribution to the Brown Endowment is a statement that chemical engineers are committed to a diverse and inclusive profession, and dedicated to advancing equity.

To help the Brown Endowment exist in perpetuity and award up to 30 high-achieving students annually, we invite you to give the give the gift of inspiration.
