June Wispelwey, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of AIChE, officially announced her retirement in December 2021. Wispelwey’s last day as Executive Director and CEO will be April 20, 2022.

Wispelwey is a chemical engineering alumnus of Princeton Univ. and the Univ. of Pennsylvania, where she earned her BS and MS degrees, respectively. She began her career as a process engineer at ARCO Chemical, now LyondellBasell. She served as global director of performance chemicals, business development, and research and development at Lyondell, and later as the vice president of marketing services at Aventis Behring. Prior to her selection as AIChE’s Executive Director, Wispelwey served as the first Executive Director of AIChE’s Society for Biological Engineering (SBE), overseeing its successful launch and growth.

After more than 13 years at the helm of the Institute, Wispelwey reflects on the remarkable growth that AIChE has experienced over that time, and envisions the organization’s next steps...
