Special Section: Energy - Environmental Considerations of Shale Gas Development

Special Section
August
2012

The impacts of shale gas development on land, air, and water resources can and must be managed through sustainable operating practices.

As shale gas development has moved into more highly populated areas, concerns have been raised about the environmental footprint of these activities. The film Gasland, with its images of falming tap water has painted a onesided, negative picture of shale gas development for viewers in the U.S., Europe, and other parts of the world, one in which shale gas developers are unregulated and routinely disregard sustainable operating practices.
