Discover Texas History — Visit the Bullock Museum

Bullock Museum Entrance

If you are attending the Spring Meeting or Global Congress on Process Safety, the best way to learn about Austin — and the great state of Texas — is to visit the Bullock Texas State History Museum.

Located just a few blocks north of the Texas State Capitol, the museum features three floors of exhibit space that showcase more than 700 original artifacts.

Check out exhibits

On the first floor, you can view the historic shipwreck, La Belle, a feat of excavation and preservation science. The 300-year old artifact helps tell the story of French explorer Robert de La Salle and his failed Texas colonies. Through this exhibit, you will learn about the hardships of these first settlers in the untamed lands of 17th-century Texas. For a more interactive experience, save some time to view the 4D movie “Shipwrecked” in the Texas Spirit Theater, located on the second floor.

The second floor gallery showcases Texas state history from 1821 to 1936. Here, you will discover how Texas gained its independence from Mexico. Walk through history as you take in the Battle of Gonzales, the fall of the Alamo, and finally the Battle of San Jacinto. Continue on to the third floor to learn more about Texas in the 20th century. From cattle ranching to the oil boom, and from World War II to the Apollo 11 Mission, discover what role the state played in U.S. history.

In this exhibit, the Texas revolution begins at the Battle of Gonzales.

Watch a film

If you are short on time, you can witness many of these events come to life in the 4D movie, “The Star of Destiny.” Journey through history in this 16-minute film, which features special lighting as well as wind, water, and sound effects — and a few surprises that may make you jump out of your seat!

Or, if you are in for a thrill, watch a movie or documentary in the Bullock Museum's IMAX Theatre. Films currently showing include Dark Universe, Jerusalem 3D, and Humpback Whales 3D.
