Pratim Biswas, the Lucy and Stanley Lopata Professor, is the Chairman of the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. Prof. Biswas obtained his B. Tech (1980) degree from IIT Bombay, M.S (1981) from University of California, and Ph. D (1985) from California Institute of Technology, USA.
Pratim is an internationally recognized aerosol scientist, and his areas of research and teaching interests are in Aerosol Science and Technology; Nanoparticle Technology; Energy and Environmental Nanotechnology. He has made novel contributions to the understanding of formation of combustion aerosols. This knowledge has been successfully applied to prevent the emissions of inadvertently produced particles; and for the controlled production of nanoparticles for energy and environmental technologies. He has more than 300 refereed journal publications and six patents. He has graduated 40 PhD students.
Dr Biswas has won several Teaching and Research Awards.
