David Mathews

Professor
University of Rochester

David Mathews is the Lynne E. Maquat Distinguished Professor of RNA Biology at the University of Rochester.  He is in the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics and the Center for RNA Biology.  He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Rochester, and his thesis work was mentored by Douglas Turner in Chemistry.  He was a postdoctoral fellow with David Case at the Scripps Research Institute.

The Mathews lab studies RNA structure using computational methods (https://rna.urmc.rochester.edu).  They develop and maintain the RNAstructure software package for secondary structure prediction and analysis.  In addition, they develop and use molecular dynamics to model the conformational dynamics of 3D structures.
