Professor Bernard J. Van Wie received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Oklahoma State University, all in Chemical Engineering. He joined the faculty at Washington State University in 1983 and his current research topics include biotechnology (biosensors and bioanalytical devices), cell and tissue culture, and engineering education research. He received the Washington State University Innovation in Teaching Award in 2016, their Outstanding Teaching Award in 2009 and was inducted into Washington State University Teaching Academy in 2007.
