Assoc.-Prof. Dr. Winkler’s research interests revolve around the allosteric regulation of multi-domain proteins. Understanding the molecular principles of how nature has come up with a remarkable modularity of sensor-effector combinations is key to efficiently create novel sensor-effector combinations with desirable functionalities. To this end, Andreas Winkler and his team focus on naturally occurring effector systems that respond to different stimuli. Eventually, this allows the differentiation between general principles of signal integration of the respective effector domain versus system-specific adaptations.
