Adam Uliana

Adam Uliana is a PhD candidate at the University of California, Berkeley. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 2017 with a major in Chemical Engineering and three minors. As an undergraduate, Adam spent a semester researching nanofiltration membranes at KU Leuven (Belgium), interned at Air Products and Chemicals, and conducted research at Penn State and in Rwanda on a Moringa-functionalized sand filter. His undergraduate research led to eight co-authored publications. At Berkeley, Adam is advised by Prof. Jeffrey Long. His primary graduate research has focused on developing porous nanomaterials and membranes for selective ion separations, including work on a membrane-based desalination and solute extraction approach published in Science. Adam has led numerous initiatives in environmental and STEM outreach and is currently the lab manager for the Long Group. He also served as a graduate student instructor for three chemical engineering courses, for which he received three teaching awards while at Berkeley.
