This lecture honors the distinguished career of William R. Schowalter, whose accomplishments span seminal research in fluid mechanics, visionary academic leadership as department chair at Princeton and dean of engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and high-level international engagement as senior adviser to three presidents at the National University of Singapore and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.
Reflecting Bill’s broad contributions to chemical engineering, the lecture’s focus will alternate on a yearly basis between fluid mechanics research, broadly understood to include complex fluids and soft condensed matter, and typically delivered by an academic speaker, and topics of general interest to our profession, the latter typically delivered by an industrial speaker.

| Award | The lecture is made possible thanks to a leadership gift from an anonymous donor. We expect this gift to be supplemented by contributions from Bill’s numerous former students and colleagues. The Schowalter lecturer will receive a prize of $5,000 and a plaque. Each year there will be a reception associated with the lecture, open to attendees of the AIChE meeting. |

| Nomination Instructions | There are no restrictions on who can nominate an individual for the award. A call for nominations will be made annually through targeted communications to technical programming entities, and via AIChE communications more generally. A selection committee, comprised of members of Areas 1J (Fluid Mechanics) and 1C (Interfacial Phenomena Area), the Executive Board of the Programming Committee and the AIChE Foundation Executive Committee, will review nominations and select the awardee.
